SR-25 Guide, The one and only guide you need for all airsoft SR-25.

Hey guys,

Sorry I havent posted for a long time.

I was recently browsing on the internet (Oh my god!!!) and I stumbled upon the extremely interesting post. I DID NOT WRITE IT! ALL CREDIT GOES TO 'EDI 1ST' FROM 6MM DISTRICT AIRSOFT FORUM.

Here is how it goes:

SR-25 Guide, The one and only guide you need for all airsoft SR-25.

The reason why I decided to write this is because there are way too many SR-25s with different internal settings out there.
I don't want to spend the time explaining each one whenever someone asks.

The guide is separated into two parts.
1. Introduction to different types of SR-25 and upgrade compatibility.
2. Magazine compatibility.
3. Upgrade guide and suggestions.
4. Listening to EDI ranting about why getting one with V2.5 GB.

PART 1

Generally speaking, there are 3 types of SR-25s out there based on different gear boxes.
1. V2 GB
2. V2.5 GB
3. JG/E1 GB

Note* G&P made a few version of SR-25s that has V2 GB, this include the original version and later CNC version.
The newest ones and some CNC versions are labeled with "SR-25 GB" use the V2.5 GB.

V2 includes G&G, certain G&P and ARES.

ARES GB (Pic from davkenrem)

G&G and certain G&P's SR-25 GB is just a standard V2 with longer nozzle on the cylinder head and a longer air nozzle.

ARES is the same except that they have their stupid proprietary hop and some GB parts.
The ARES GB can be modified to take all the V2 parts other than the quick change spring guide.
ARES also uses their micro switch for the trigger which is smart and stupid.
It avoids arcing like the traditional trigger contacts but the micro switch is fragile, run something with too much power, it'll get fried.
ARES's proprietary hop-up chamber is connected to the GB shell which makes the feeding position different.

V2.5 includes CA, certain G&P and A&K. (A&K is the clone version of the G&P but their GB isn't as much reinforced.)
CA (From ASGI)

G&P (From WGC)

V2.5 GB have longer cylinder and piston which give you more air volume over the V2, even if the V2 has bore up kit.
It is VERY important to have more air volume when you are running a gun with 509mm barrel and pushing heavier rounds.

The sector gear and the piston have 19 teeth to utilize the elongated cylinder.
The Cylinder head might be a V4, I never checked since the CA one works great by itself.
V2 cylinder head will work so there really isn't a need to worry.
The nozzle is V4 for sure.
Piston type is generally referred to the L85/PSG-1 group. (Yes, you can fit those pistons in V2.5 GB)
Longer tappet plate is used for the V2.5

Rest are all V2 compatible.

JG/E1 includes, well, JG & E1

E1 just rebrands JG
Their GB has similar "outer dimension" as the V2.5 however it has a weird cylinder head with longer body, this also requires a longer tappet plate.
Other than that, rest are all V2.

PART 2

Magazines
There are 2 types of magazines.

1. ARES
Because ARES decided to have shorter GB and forcing the hop chamber to be attached to the GB shell, the feeding position of the mag is further back.

2. G&P, CA, A&K, G&G, E1/JG
They all have their magazines' feeding position sitting near the edge like most other airsoft magazines.
However, G&P's magwell and magazines are wider. A&K copied them so same with A&K.
The standard SR-25 mags from G&P and A&K will fit in the CA, G&G & E1 however it'll be a tight fit.
The 7.62 LR20 PMAG, which was designed for the G&P, will NOT fit in CA, G&G or E1 without sanding down the magazines.

PART 3

Upgrades and suggestions
For the V2 parts, well, they are V2s, nothing really worth going over.....

V2.5 only parts:
Pistons: After trying a few different pistons myself and looking at others' history, the SHS and CA pistons are the way to go. I prefer SHS because they have steel teeth.

Cylinder:
Well, just make sure they are smooth like a mirror inside, polish them if needed.
If you really need to replace it, any cylinder for L85 or PSG-1 will work.
CA also makes a bore-up kit if you need it (um, well, you won't really need it at all...)

Piston Head:
Some tried the V2 piston heads and say they work, some say they don't.
SHS now makes piston heads with long nozzle for it.

Air Nozzle:
V4 compatible.

Gears:
G&P, CA, A&K, SHS all make V2.5 gear sets.
CA also has Super Torque Up gear set which has a ratio of around 32:1.
Riot used to make SR-25 gear sets but he stopped their production for a while.
He talked about bringing them back but it's being a year or so.....

Barrel/hop:
Well, they are the same as any other AEGs.
But um.....ONLY PAY FOR NICE BARRELS......
Get the ER-hop if possible, or at least the R-hop.
DO NOT get the REAPS, they are retarded, retarded, retarded.
Yea, might be an easy way out for the R-hop, but you know what? A regular bucking can do the same.......
And it isn't better than the R-hop.

When upgrading, also do "those" modifications if you can and tune/install parts properly.
Accuracy/Range
Barrel Stabilization
R/ER-hop (ER is strongly suggested)

Compression
Compression Tests
Teflon Taping Cylinder Head
Piston O-Ring Stretching
Sanding the Tappet Plate
Polishing Cylinder & Cylinder Head
Cylinder Head Tip / Nozzle Seal Mod

Gearbox
Rounding the Edgies of the Cylinder Port
Correcting Angle of Engagment

PART 4

Yea, I'm going to rant, it won't be long.
V2.5, why why why why why. Why not?
The bigger and more reinforced GB means that it's stronger and will take on just about any springs without risk of getting a "crackhead".
With Sorbo and Radius GB, I'm pretty sure that you'll be save with the MS210 spring.

OH LOOK! MORE AIR VOLUME.
Cylinder to barrel ratio is pretty important, it's the difference that'll determine whether or not you'll hit that kid from FAR FAR away.

509mm barrel and the fact that you'll be using heavier rounds mean that you'll need even MORE air volume.

So....if you have the money, get the damn smexy G&P SR-25.
If you only have some money, get the CA SR-25.
If you are near dead broke, get the A&K SR-25.

Anything else.....idk....I'll slap you maybe? lol
Well, if it's a P* or DG...I guess that's fine.....
But eh, those will probably be G&P...since they just throw the kits into existing SR-25s.

Um yea...that's about it....

Here's one of my SR-25s.....
